Official Launch of the Zambia Capital Markets Conference and Awards
Last week the Lusaka Securities Exchange in collaboration with the Capital Markets Association of Zambia launched the Zambia Capital Markets Conference and Awards with the theme “Unlocking Capital Markets for Inclusive Economic Growth” to be held on 2nd and 3rd October in Livingstone, at the Avani Hotel. Speaking during the conference, the Chief Executive Officer for LuSE, Mr Nicholas Kabaso stated that “The Zambia Capital Markets Conference will serve as a capital markets premier platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration. It will provide a space where we can examine the opportunities and challenges facing our market, explore innovative solutions, and chart a forward-looking agenda for economic transformation. From discussions on investment climate reforms, digitalization, sustainable finance, to strengthening SME participation, the conference promises to equip participants with insights that will inspire action. In addition, the Zambia Capital Markets Awards will celebrate excellence, innovation, and resilience. They will shine a spotlight on organizations and individuals who are shaping the future of our markets – those whose contributions are helping to deepen liquidity, enhance investor confidence, and broaden access to capital. By recognizing and honoring these achievements, we reaffirm our belief that Zambia’s capital markets can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best on the continent.” He also indicated that the launch was more than unveiling a concept but about building momentum towards a stronger financial ecosystem that supports enterprise, creates jobs, and fosters prosperity for all Zambians. It is about telling our own story, celebrating our progress, and setting ambitious targets for the years ahead. And speaking during the same event the Permanent Secretary of Economic Management & Finance at the Ministry of Finance represented by Director Akapelwa Imwiko stated. “As a nation, we are on a path toward economic revitalization and sustainable growth. Our government’s agenda is clear: to create a conducive environment for the private sector to flourish, to attract both domestic and foreign investment, and to ensure that growth is inclusive and benefits all Zambians. At the heart of this agenda lies the need for a deep and efficient capital market… the Ministry of Finance, together with our regulatory agencies, we are fully committed to nurturing a vibrant capital market. We are actively working on key policies and regulatory reforms to enhance market integrity, protect investors, and reduce the cost of doing business. Our objective is to build a market that is not only efficient but also globally competitive.” During the event sponsors such as Copperbelt Energy Corporation, ZANACO, STANDARD CHARTERED and REIZ PLC all pledged full support of the event.
